AEP Texas reminds everyone that hurricane season began June 1 and continues through November 30. Now is the time to begin planning for the possibility of a major storm.
Our aeptexas.com website features many suggestions on how to prepare for and what to expect during and following a storm. You can find those suggestions in the SAFETY section of AEP Texas.com.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is projecting a very active hurricane season. This projection increases the importance of planning now for the possibility of a storm that results in extended outages. Most importantly, customers on life support systems or other medical equipment, which rely on electricity, are reminded to have a backup plan for situations where prolonged outages may occur.
Being prepared ahead of the storm is the first step to keeping your home and family safe. Gather an emergency outage kit that includes:
-
Flashlights and fresh batteries
-
Battery-powered radios
-
Candles, matches or lighters
-
Water for drinking and cooking
-
Camping equipment like sleeping bags and lanterns
-
Non-perishable food and a manual can opener
-
Manufacturers' instructions for your generator (if you have one)
-
Instructions on how to manually open your garage door
-
Important over-the-counter medicines
Energy delivery companies such as AEP Texas monitor weather threats around the clock and remain in a constant state of readiness.
