CUSTOMERS HELP APPALACHIAN POWER REDESIGN ITS WEBSITE

August 17, 2009

ROANOKE, Va., August 17, 2009 – Appalachian Power has launched a new version of its Website, AppalachianPower.Com. The site has been redesigned and restructured based on feedback from customers about what works best for them.

"Our customers told us it was difficult to navigate to the information they needed on the old site," said Jeri Matheney, Appalachian Power corporate communications manager. "We spent more than a year talking with users of our Website, observing them as they used the site, and working with them to test new approaches. The customers we've worked with on the newest version of the site have been very enthusiastic about the layout and have commented on how much easier it is to search."

Visitors to AppalachianPower.Com can manage their accounts, pay bills on-line, sign up for the average monthly payment plan and paperless billing and update their phone numbers, mailing address and more.   Customers can also learn ways to save energy and reduce their electricity bills, find information about current power outages and get information on electrical safety and the company's community and environmental activities.

The redesigned site is found at www.AppalachianPower.com.

Appalachian Power has almost 1 million customers in Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee (as AEP Appalachian Power). It is a unit of American Electric Power, one of the largest electric utilities in the United States, which delivers electricity to more than 5 million customers in 11 states.
