One of the ways AEP Texas is staying prepared for wildfire season is by attending educational events such as the Texas Emergency Management Conference in Fort Worth. Over 4,000 elected officials, first responders, and emergency managers attended the conference focused on being prepared before, during, and after various types of emergencies.

While the four-day conference provided dozens of workshops focusing on a variety of emergency management skills, Roberson said it all comes down to being prepared for when an emergency strikes.

"Develop a plan for you and your loved ones. Weather forecasts can be challenging and quickly changing as outlier events happen and don't turn your phone's wireless emergency alerts off," he said. "Don't forget in your planning to include children, pets, and the elderly. For those of us that have fragile relatives, consider signing them up for the State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry. It is a great program that can assist in difficult times and events."
