AEP Texas employees joined Vernon ISD students on Thursday, May 1 for the district's annual Egg Drop Challenge.
Every spring students are handed a raw egg and given an assignment to engineer and build a protective apparatus to withstand a drop from 50 feet in the air. Students use foam, tape, bubble wrap, and parachutes to design contraptions to keep their eggs from cracking. AEP Texas employees then drop each device from a bucket truck while students watch - and hope for a safe landing.
"It's a messy but fun way to encourage creativity, critical thinking, and a little friendly competition," said Vernon Distribution System Supervisor Tory H. Smith.
