28 de mayo de 2025

During AEP Texas's annual hurricane drill on May 21, leadership, ICS members and support staff participated in an exercise that simulated how the company would respond during a major storm event. Leadership focused on the importance of quicker restoration times, faster communications, and new technology. Ways in which to improve customer's trust during prolonged outages were also a major theme during the drill.

During the drill, it was announced that AEP Texas purchased 16 Starlink satellite devices to serve as backup for mobile communication during restoration efforts. These devices are magnetic and can be placed on any unit.

Later in the drill, Continuous Improvement Manager Patrick Rackley talked about the growing role of drones in storm restoration and said it sped the damage assessment process. Drones help crews access areas inaccessible by foot.

In addition to storm restoration, leadership announced ways in which its preparing for possible wildfires.
