AEP Texas participated in the Purple Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, bringing together pickleball players and community members to raise funds and awareness for survivors of domestic and sexual violence at The Purple Door. Christina A. Gomez, AEP Texas Regulatory Consultant, emphasized the event's significance, stating, "This event was about more than pickleball. It was about coming together, cheering each other on, and standing for a cause that matters." Held at the AI Kruse Tennis Center, the event featured local vendors and music by DJ Johnny Hotcakes, with proceeds benefiting families at The Purple Door, which provides 24-hour services for survivors across the Coastal Bend.
During the event, Gomez helped coordinate activities, handed out medals, and organized door prizes while encouraging community involvement. AEP Texas fielded two teams that included employees and community partners. One of the tournament's highlights was an exhibition match between KIII-TV's Chief Meteorologist Alan Holt and Sports Director Chris Thomasson. This gathering not only fostered a spirit of competition but also created an environment for the community to learn how to support survivors through donations, volunteering, and spreading awareness.
