The AEP Texas Foundation awarded an $8,000 grant to support the construction of a new visitor kiosk at the entrance of the Lamar Burton Wetlands Wildlife Sanctuary to help create an education space for the public to explore one of the Costal Bend's most important natural habitats in Rockport.
"This generous contribution will help us create a welcoming shaded kiosk where guests can learn more about the sanctuary," Aransas First Land Trust shared on its Facebook page. "The structure will feature maps and educational signage highlighting the diverse ecosystems found on the property, along with interpretive information about the wildlife that call the wetlands home."
AEP Texas External Affairs Manager Patrick King says the AEP Texas Foundation is committed to improving quality of life in the communities it serves.
"Through this donation Aransas First is preserving and creating public access to 105 acres of wetlands in the critical Lamar Peninsula," King said. "This area is an important natural resource for both wildlife and the community."
