Before you even start trimming the tree, be sure to inspect all lights, decorations, and extension cords for damage before you use them. Throw away any cord that is frayed or worn out. And as we're setting out those decorations, be careful not to get anything close to open flames such as candles and fireplaces.
Don't run those cords under rugs or furniture. Before you go to sleep, remember to turn off all indoor and outdoor electrical decorations. This goes for space heaters and candles as well. If you can't remember, double check before you go to bed because it's always better to be safe than sorry.
Speaking of outdoors, if you are channeling your inner Clark Griswold and hanging up lights outside, make sure to be cautious when decorating near power lines.
Keep a distance of at least 10 feet between yourself, your equipment, and power lines. We hope these tips help you have a safe holiday season. And remember to check it twice before you make your home look nice.
