The AEP Foundation has contributed $50,000 to fund a two-year sponsorship for the Laredo College Family Fun Fest and Musicale.
AEP Texas External Affairs Manager Tony Arce Jr. presented the check on behalf of the AEP Foundation. Arce noted that American Electric Power, the parent company of AEP Texas, created the AEP Foundation in 2005 to provide a permanent, ongoing resource for charitable initiatives involving higher dollar values and multi-year commitments in the communities served by AEP and initiatives outside of AEP's 11-state service area.
The foundation focuses on improving lives through education from early childhood through higher education in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math; by meeting basic needs for emergency shelter, affordable housing and the elimination of hunger; and championing social and racial justice. Other foundation support may be offered to protect the environment, promote healthcare and safety, and enrich life through art, music and cultural heritage.
The LC Family Fun Fest and Musicale has been a cherished annual tradition for over 25 years, welcoming thousands of people each year to create everlasting memories and enjoy family-friendly entertainment, food and excitement for the entire family.
This annual event is part of Laredo's monthlong Washington's Birthday Celebration Association (WBCA) festivities. Among the many activities available, the event has live music, performances from talented dancers, inflatable rides, a petting zoo with exotic animals, carnival rides and much more.
"As the host of one of Laredo's biggest annual family events, the Laredo College Family Fun Fest and Musicale, we are proud to announce this generous sponsorship by the AEP Foundation, a longtime community partner that supports education and students through various philanthropic initiatives," Laredo College President Dr. Minita Ramirez said. "We are honored to continue this beloved annual tradition in collaboration with our great partners from the WBCA."
"On behalf of our AEP Foundation, we are excited to support the Laredo College Family Fun Fest as the title sponsor for 2024 and 2025," Arce said. "The Fun Fest is a powerful alignment with our foundation's focus areas of education and enriching the quality of life for the communities we serve.
“Laredo College has a well-established legacy across South Texas as an educational leader and a premier destination for family-oriented events that bring people in our community together through interactive activities, live entertainment and community resources,” Arce continued.
The 2024 LC Family Fun Fest and Musicale is slated for Saturday, Feb. 24 from 12-5 p.m. at the historic Ft. McIntosh Campus in downtown Laredo. Admission is free and open to the public.
