AEP Texas employees honor first responders at 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

14 de Septiembre de 2026

AEP Texas employees in Abilene participated in the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, honoring the 441 first responders who lost their lives. Participants were challenged to climb 2,200 steps which is equal to the 110 stories of each World Trade Center building.

“It really means a lot for our guys to volunteer and participate in our community to show support for the first responders they work with day in and day out,” said District System Supervisor Richard Washington. “9/11 was a big event that made a huge impact on a lot of people’s lives and to see us come out and support the community means a lot.”

Service Mechanic Michael Rifici was in New York on Sept. 11, 2001, and had friends and family who were first responders that were called to help. He said he is proud to see his fellow employees come together to honor those who lost their lives.

"It's pretty honorable that people took time out of their day to honor the fallen and those who continue to serve," he said. "We're very fortunate that we can be part of this."
