The Rochester Volunteer Fire Department is getting two new radios with the help of AEP Texas. Thanks to a $3,600 donation from the AEP Texas Foundation, the department can replace some outdated radios. The current radios are over 20 years old and cause communication issues.
"Our radios are so old that we're not able to talk on them anymore. We can hear others, but they can't hear us and that causes issues," said Chief Randy Wilcher. "We have to use our phones to call someone when we need something and that's also a problem because we don't get very good cell service around here."
The donation will help the department purchase two new radios.
"We run strictly on donations, so this is really a big help," Wilcher said. "There's no way we could operate if it weren't for the donations we get."
